There are many good skin cancer links and resources. Here are a few that you may want to check out:

The Skin Cancer Foundation is an international nonprofit organization devoted to fighting skin cancer. Their Web site includes news stories about skin cancer, prevention tips, and an "Ask the Expert" feature, where doctors answer questions submitted to the Web site. You can find the Skin Cancer Foundation online.

MedlinePlus is a service of the National Academy of Medicine that provides health information for the general public. Its Web page on skin cancer is HERE and its page on melanoma is HERE. The Web pages include links to many reliable sources of information. Some people may find the "Pictures & Photographs" sections especially informative. Be warned, though, that some of the photos are not easy to look at.

SkinCancerNet is a Web site for the general public sponsored by the American Academy of Dermatology. It includes prevention information, pictures of a variety of types of skin cancer (again, not always easy to look at), and information on the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer, all in language that's easy to understand. You can find SkinCancerNet HERE.

The American Academy of Dermatology can be found online. There is some educational information for the general public on this site, but much of the site is aimed at other audiences, such as dermatologists and the news media.

The American Cancer Society provides an abundance of information about all types of cancer, including skin cancer. This site is especially useful for people who have just been diagnosed with cancer and want to know more about the type of cancer that they have and the ways that it is treated. However, the site also includes general information on the prevention and early detection of cancer that is suitable for everyone. You may want to check out THIS PAGE on the prevention and early detection of skin cancer.

Finally, one of the most detailed sources of cancer information on the Web is the U.S. National Cancer Institute web site. Here you will find comprehensive information on both melanoma and other types of skin cancer, including information on prevention, genetics, causes, testing, treatment, clinical trials, research, and statistics.
